Friends,
I hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July. Some of you know that I have been writing a book about the legendary New England jamband, Max Creek. It’s been a passion project and a labor of love for sure. I wanted to let fans of the band that follow me here know that this project is absolutely not vaporware. In fact, I’ve made tremendous progress. My manuscript is now over 100 hundred pages. It’s been a fascinating project. You would think you know a band after seeing them 150 times. Not the case. Truth be told, the more I learn, the less I know. I have tumbled down many beautiful and unexpected rabbit holes.
I recently interviewed Jim Chapdelaine. Jim is an award-winning musician and producer who has won 13 Emmy Awards. Thirteen! He studied at the Berklee College of Music and played with Pat Metheny. Oh, and he teaches music production and technology at The Hartt School, where Max Creek formed. During the interview, he told me he played guitar and dobro on “Said and Done” with Mark Mercier for the compilation album Our Big Idea: Collinsville’s Best Hits 1999. I never knew there was a studio recording of the song and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Check it out.
Max Creek has been a band for five decades. As you can imagine, there are dozens of nuggets and interesting tidbits in the book. Have a question? Drop me a line.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Do you need a good editor? Or at least a Manuscript Review with some substantial comments?
