Watermelon in Easter Hay
Friends,
Happy Saturday. It’s a beautiful fall day here in Fort Collins. The sun is shining, I’m sipping tea, and listening to “Watermelon in Easter Hay” by Frank Zappa. It’s such a beautiful piece of music, I had to share it with you.
The song originally appeared on Joe’s Garage, Frank’s three-part rock opera, and has become one of his signature compositions over the years. In fact, Frank’s son, Dweezil Zappa, continues to perform the song to this day and believes it’s his father’s best guitar solo.
Check out this live version from 1978 and let me know what you think.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

P.S. I recently discovered a young pianist named Robert Colby-Witanek who performs a wonderful interpretation of the song on solo piano. You can see his performance here.
