10 Cool Songs for Your Holiday Playlist
Friends,
It’s that time of year again. Glorious, magnificent, wonderful Christmas. I'm headed to Rhode Island to celebrate the holiday with my family, and this will be my last post of 2023. It's been a whirlwind year, and I'm excited to take some time off. I'm also excited for Italian food, New England style DIPAs, and pizza strips.
I want to take a moment to thank you for the love and support you have shown me throughout the year. It means the world to me. I’m still working diligently on The Lav Rats and the Max Creek book, and will have some exciting updates to share in the new year. I’ll be back on Saturday, January 6th 2024. With that said, I want to leave you with 10 cool Christmas songs you can add to your holiday playlist.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Christmas All Over Again
My friend Angie reminded me how cool this song is. Here’s a live performance from "A Very Special Christmas" TV special that was filmed at the White House, no less.
Dropkick Murphys - The Seasons Upon Us
Not only does this song frigging rock, the video totally cracks me up! Does this New England Christmas resonate with anyone else?
Ramones - Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight)
A Ramones Christmas song? Yes, please 🙋🏼♂️
Ray Charles - The Spirit of Christmas
Like many people, I discovered “The Spirit of Christmas” while watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It’s featured in a scene when Chevy Chase is trapped in his attic and discovers a box of old, home movies. It’s a touching scene, and let’s be honest, Ray Charles was a national treasure.
Colbie Caillat - Mistletoe
My daughter and I love this song and hope you do too.
Eels - Christmas is Going to The Dogs
If the Eels ever wrote a Christmas song, this would be it.
James Brown - Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto
You might want to turn this one up. It’s quintessential James Brown.
The Raveonettes - The Christmas Song
I discovered this song while watching Christmas with the Kranks, which has a surprisingly cool song track. Also, check out the book, Skipping Christmas, which was adapted into the movie. The novel is heartwarming and super funny.
JD McPherson - Holly, Carol, Candy & Joy
A great song and a great video.
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
I’m not going to lie. This one hits differently this year. I couldn't decide on which version to share and even considered the version from Shane MacGowan's recent funeral, but I decided to stick with the original. Which, by the way, now has over 93 million views. Thank you for the words and the music, Shane. You were truly an angel 🍀
Here’s the complete playlist. Give it a spin. I’ll see you next year!
P.S. Need a last-minute Christmas gift? I’ve been told Acapulco and The Potato Puff Surprise make wonderful stocking stuffers for people of all ages.
